1999 Tropical Illuzion Tournament at SC Village

Giovanni on the PA        SC Villiage, in Corona, California, was host to the 3rd and final tournament in a series of Tropical Illuzion events.  The tournament was open to all classes of players, and had a number of sponsors, which included WGP, Novastar, Unique Sporting Goods, RP Scherer, B&M, and SC Villiage.  The tournament was reffed by members of Tropical Illuzion, Grizwalds, Hostile Takeover, as well as a handful of other players, who all did an excellent job.  There were about 26 teams, with 18 being in the Rookie division and 8 in the Novice/Amatuer Division

Four fields were used for the tournament, which included the Speed ball field, the 2 Hyperball fields, and Sup'Air.  The format of the tourney was a random draw of each team playing 6 teams in their division.  The top teams in each division were then put at the top of the bracket and those were your places.  Awards were given to the top 4 teams in the Rookie Division and the top 6 in the Nov/Am Division.

Hyperball - Field 2        There were a handful of well known teams on hand, which included Genesis, Marine Team, Bounty Hunters, Krusade, Broken Arrow, as well as a few others.  Up and coming teams like Full Breach did fairly well with both of their teams placing 2nd and 4th in the rookie division.  I give credit to Team Delusion who played their first major tourney.  Delusion was matched against some talented teams, yet played well and had fun.  There were a few other teams which consisted of much younger players, as well as a few teams which were playing their first tournament.  Though the tourney consisted of teams, with skill levels ranging from beginner to amateur (and almost pro, in my opinion), the tournament went fairly well, with most of the beginner teams doing extremely well.

Throughout the day, very few penalties, were given to any of the teams.  Most of the penalties were coming from "hot guns".  Games lasted about 2-3 minutes on the average, with most of the teams who were winning getting maxes (100 points of 100).  The temperature was in the high 80's with a breeze coming through.

Broken Arrow 3 - Speed Ball        Most of the games in the Nov/Am division were pretty close throughout the day.  Some teams were doing very well.  Some teams just never clicked throughout the day.  Genesis ended up taking the Nov/Am Division.  As for the Rookie Division, 1st Broken Arrow Blue, 2nd Full Breach, and Krusade 3rd.  Ray, captain of Illuzion, gave away Autococker for 1st in both Divisions, 2nd took home Nova's.  Nice job to Ray and Team Illuzion, Dennis and SC Villiage, and all of the teams who competed.  Hope to see you all at the next one.
