What is Splat Factory?
Commitment, dedication, teamwork,
and honor of fair play are just a few of the basic qualities that are the
building blocks of Splat Factory. It is the goal and vision of
this team to develop an image that is positive representation of the sport
of paintball.
The team originally started out as the Swarming Peacocks, but the name was changed after the affiliate of Splat Factory, a paintball store in San Diego. We were picked up sight unseen, by this brand new store based on word of mouth, and the high profile “Little Man”, Adam Baker. Imagine how happy they were when they discovered, not only do they have the smallest, most photographed player around, the team can actually play! The addition of the “Asian Porn Star”, Sean Takeda (Broken Arrow, Zoo Crew, Subzero, Team Yella) as the team’s new coach, will give our team the winning edge.
This year, we have expanded into some 10-player events, playing NPPL Las Vegas, and moving up to Novice for Chicago so that more experienced players could participate. Splat Factory has placed in every event they have participated in with the exception of World Cup 2002 (maxing six of the eight games, which included beating their pro team). As you can see, we are very versatile and will play in any type of event.
Splat Factory has
been very slow to add players to our roster, believing that finding players
who have the same “family values” and morals that we strive for, takes careful
consideration and approval from every member on the team. Splat Factory
consists of a diverse span of players with no limitations to national origin,
age, or gender, with the youngest player being 12 and the oldest over 40.
It is this diversity of culture and background that has attracted many players
at every level to the team, enough so that we have now built a rookie squad
as well.
We know we have the “right stuff” to make sponsors very happy, not only with their skill on the field, but their demeanor on and off the field. As pleased as we are with the great year we have had, we are most proud of doing it and winning the sportsmanship award at 2 major events.
Why Splat Factory?
Splat Factory is one of
the most visible teams on the fields today, especially in Southern California.
It is our intention to maintain a presence of professionalism and sportsmanship
to promote the sport of paintball.
We make great efforts to promote our sponsors by participating in promotional efforts, such as cross-over interviews with Ryan Sheckler (skate boarder), commercials & print ads for XS Sports, Good Day LA live telecast at Hollywood Sports Park, All-star interview for Paintball.com (which generated more responses than any All-star review to date), player profile in Paintball Sports International Magazine (Jerry Braun, NPPL), front page interview in the Californian Newspaper, multiple cover shots for Action Pursuit Games (as well as the Calendar for December 2003) & Paintball, and team profile at the Monthly Paintball Newsletter (thempn.com). We are also working with Murrieta Valley High School to develop one of the few paintball clubs at the high school level.
Splat Factory has also been involved with product testing for our sponsors, to help them improve products to that meet the demands of the competitive public. We are always ready to come out to help promote the sport of paintball to the mainstream public in a positive manner, which reflects well for our sponsors.
Plans/Objectives/Direction
Splat Factory has
devised a short and long-term plan that will allow this team to succeed through
the ranks of the sport.
We host a series of affordable young guns tournaments, focusing on coaching the teams between games, to encourage the future players of the sport. We have also hosted an “Old Fossils” tournament, for the over 30 crowd (by popular request), which has attracted players such as Ron Kilborne (Bushwackers) and Phil Dominguez (Chairman NPPL). We will also be working with the Showdown tournament series, hosted by thempn.com for the 2003 series to revive another reputable series to California.
We have big plans for 2003, which include all NPPL and local PSP events, and at least one overseas adventure.
Alignment with a sponsor is a key element to the continued success and growth of the team. Therefore, we intent to apply an innovative “out of the box” approach to sponsorship.
Understanding the needs of the sponsor and how the team can meet such needs will be the foundation to which the relationship will be built.
