Well now that the holidays are
over and all of you got the new paintguns that you were asking for : ),
its time for Spring, and the new season! I know for a lot of you
back east you still have all the snow and rain, and are probably going
to use your money for snowboarding, but for those of you who out west,
the weather has been just perfect.
Finally the January issue is here.
Many of you have been sending your emails to me with questions to answer,
wanting to know about new guns, products, as well as info on joining teams.
I have been basing my issues around email that you the players send me.
Just wanted to say, keep the mail coming...!
Thanks,
The Warlock

I haven't heard too much about this gun but I'll fill you in with the details that I know about.
The Shocker has actually been around a while. Its been through some modification and is now Smart Parts alternative for the new WDP Angel. It features:
-a rifled barrel, for flat trajectory
-max flow regulator, for low pressure operation
-Gadget GTS (don't know what this is for)
-remote hoses
-supposedly lighter recoil than the Angel
-cost is around $695.
My friend Steve is getting one of these bad boys and hopefully I will be able to provide more nfo after I get to field test it, right Steve : )
You can learn more about it from the Smartparts website at www.smartparts.com

AMERICAN PAINTBALL LEAGUE ANNOUNCES 1998 ZAP AMATEUR SERIES 5-MAN PAINTBALL
TOURNAMENTS
$250 TEAM ENTRY FEE
Entry cost has been reduced from $400 to $250.00 (for teams who register
at least two weeks in advance), with up to seven persons permitted on the
five-man roster. Entry cost after the early payment deadline is $300.00
Paint cost is $.04 per ball, and ZAP tournament paintballs must be used
(no carry-on paint).
Compressed air and CO-2 prices have also been reduced. Instead of charging by the fill, a flat $10 per rostered player will be charged for unlimited fills at each tournament.
GAME FORMAT
WE HAVE ELIMINATED SPLAT TABLES AT APL TOURNAMENTS! We have also revised the pre-game chrono check. Instead of checking players during staging, a radar chrono will be set up for the players to check themselves. However, a field judge will spot check players on field at the goal prior to the start of a game.
Hot guns (over 300 FPS) will result in eliminated players, with eliminations
being announced to the opposing team prior to the start of the game. Post-game
chronograph procedures are the same as before, with a 300 FPS maximum after
every game. In the preliminary round, each team will play all of
their games on one field.
There will be six to ten teams in each division, so every team will
play from five to nine games in the preliminary round. The top six teams
advance to the finals round in the following manner: Every tournament will
have from two to four divisions of teams in the preliminary round. If there
are two divisions, then the top three teams in each division go to the
finals. If there are three divisions in the preliminary round, the top
two teams in each division will go to the finals. If there are four divisions
in the preliminary round, the winners of each division will advance to
the finals, along with two wild card teams, determined by their total score
in the preliminary round.
RULES ARE AVAILABLE FROM OUR WEB SITE: www.Paintball-apl.com/rules98.html
All games are center flag, with live flag rule. All bracketing is done by computer, and is statistically fair. There are no coin flips for goal selection. The computer guarantees that neither team will play from one end of a field a second time unless their opponent has played from the opposite end previously.
TEAMS CHOOSE PRIZES
We received a great response two years ago when we allowed the teams
to select their own prizes, and we are again going to allow prize selection
in 1998. As before, the top six teams (those making it into the finals)
will choose their prizes in order of their finish, then all of the other
prizes will be awarded on a drawing basis. After the top six teams select
their prizes, all of the teams who did not make it into the finals will
automatically be entered into a general drawing to distribute the remainder
of the prizes. This means that even the last place team might take home
some great prizes! As before, a team may pick any five remaining prizes.
They are not required to take five of the same
item.
SCOTT BUCKS
We are proud to have been selected by SCOTT to participate in their new SCOTT BUCKS program. Certificates in denominations of $50 or $25 will be given out, enabling winners to redeem directly with SCOTT for lots of fabulous products. A total of $1000 in SCOTT BUCKS will be given away at every APL tournament.
SPORTSMANSHIP PRIZES
We are pleased to increase the sportsmanship prizes in 1998. In addition to the special APL Commemorative '98 cocker for the INDIVIDUAL sportsmanship winner, the top sportsmanship TEAM will receive five $50 SCOTT BUCKS certificates.

Many of you have been asking about how to form or get on a team. You have also been asking about how to get sponsors. Here a couple of tips to get you started on your ventures.
Q: How do you get on a team?
A: The first thing I would recommend is to ask players on existing
teams if they are looking for players. If they are a pro or amateur
team, you might want to ask them how you can get started with your own
team. Ask people at local stores where you play. If you can't
find a team to join, get some of your close friends that you play with
and form your own team. You can build from there once you have established
as base team. You can start recruiting other players that you would
like to play with your team. Just remember, the ultimate key to forming
a team is organization. Without it, don't expect your team to last
for long.
Q: How do you get sponsors?
A: After you have established your team, and are ready for the tourney,
you can start looking for sponsors. The easiest way to start out
is to start asking at local Paintball stores. They are usually looking
for local teams to help them promote their stores. You can also ask
local field owners. They are usually willing to help out in exchange
for you helping out on their fields every once in a while.
Not too many other questions this past month. Whew! We
will see about February.

If your computer can support Java, a friend of mine has an awesome site which he created called the E-Cafe (However, your computer doesn't support Java, you can use CRT or Telnet as well, instructions and the address are on the webpage). It supports multiple chat room. He created a room for me called the "Empty Room" which has been designated for Paintball chat. Unlike ICQ, this chat forum supports actions to make the chats more exciting. If you want to talk about Paintball or just want to say "hi", stop by the E-Cafe to see who's talking!
Instructions:
- Goto www.pseudoreality.com/e-Cafe/
- You will need to create a login and password. It will ask you
to fill in a small form (which basically asks you a few questions about
yourself.)
That's it, you are ready to enter the e-Cafe. Once you are in, select the "Empty Room" and you are ready to start chatting! There is an action list. Simply type a "." in front of the action like ".wave" and you are good to go.
See you there!
Thanks for the room Fred!
