Member of the Month of February is:
Doug Vlick from Southern California
I live in Burbank,California
and am 32 years of age. I've been playing paintball since June of
1989. My first experience was at a renegade field in Yorba Linda,
where I used my buddie's tricked out Sheridan Pmi 1. It had a vertical
feed which held 30 rounds and a constant air tank and a brass barrel.
The first time I played I was hooked!
The next day
I went to the local paintball shop and bought a Tippman Sl-68 then switched
to a 68 special. I then got hooked up with another renegade field
at Whittier Narrows dam, where we played until it shut down 2 years later.
During this time I sold my Tippman and bought a Line SI Promaster, supposedly
one of the hottest guns around. I soon traded for a PMI 3 semi auto,
then shortly after, a VM68. I started playing walk on at Fields of
Fire in Santa Clarita, where I found a new group of friends in the walk
on games.
As we kept
playing every weekend our fire power decreased, and soon after, upgraded
to Minimags or Automags. With our newly found firepower, my new friends
and I decided to play in the Field's Amateur tournament in 1993, where
we played under the name Undecided, and took first! That same
year, we played in an indoor tourney and didn't fair so well. In
the summer of 1994 another Amateur tourney was held at Fields of Fire,
where we came together under the same name and took first place by a single
point.
The next couple
years I only played 6 or so times (from 95 to 97). In 1998 the same
group of guys got back together and went to our local field again, where
we were totally outclassed by the new WDP Angels. Our older Automags
were no match for these heavenly English Markers. In addition were
were out of shape because all of our age and all that beer drinking.
After a couple of more investments into the Automag, to try to increase
its life, it was time for a new gun. I decided to go electronic,
and bought a Bushmaster 2k.
The Bushy
has seen a lot of paint in the last 10 months. I've been going almost
every weekend. The one thing I like about my paintball experience
is that I have seen the progression of firepower throughout the life of
the sport. What next will the future bring to hi-tech paintball?
If I had one thing to say it would be: keep your cool on the field (you
can yell all you want but you should never get into a fight)...remeber
this is a game. Keep your goggles on, your eyes are the only ones
you will ever have.
The Members of the Month
of March ...? This could be you!
