SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SUPER CHALLENGE 2000 PRONOUNCED A HUGE SUCCESS
NASHVILLE, TN: MAY 10, 2000: The World Paintball Federation 2000 Southern California Super Challenge, sponsored by National Paintball Supply, South Carolina, concluded Sunday, May 7 with the Dragoons from Irvine, California taking 1st place in the Amateur Class and Spider’s Web of Big Bear, California ( a rookie team )taking 1st place in the Rookie/Novice Class competitions. Team Titanium Playdoe from Laguna Niguel, California placed 1st in the WPF Young Guns tournament while Lupe Ramirez of Phoenix, Arizona won the WPF Top Gun competition. A special note: the coveted WPF Sportsmanship Award was awarded to Team Splinter, who traveled all the way from Maryland to attend this event.
The host site, S.C. Village, with owner Dennis Bukowskiand manager Giovanni D’Egido, provided 4 superb concept fields for this 2nd stop on the WPF/ZAP Tour. The Rookie/Novice competition was played on a “Hyper-Ball” field and a “Sup-Air Field,” while the Amateur and Young Gun teams competed on “Hyper- Ball” fields.
“ With over 27 vendors and 32 teams in attendance, we consider the 2000 WPF Southern California Super Challenge to be one of the most successful tournaments that we have produced to date,” states Jim Lively, president of the WPF. “I would like to personally thank Dennis and everyone at S.C. Village as well as Bud Orr and his team at Worr Game Products for their support. I would especially like to congratulate the winners, teams Dragoon, Spider’s Web, Titanium Playdoe, and Splinter for their victories. We look forward to seeing everyone at the 2000 ZAP International Masters in New Orleans, Louisiana this October 6 – 8.”
By winning the Amateur Class competition, the Dragoons have received free entry into the 2000 WPF/ZAP International Masters in New Orleans along with hotel rooms, travel expenses, 10 cases of ZAP Pro Series Tournament paint, and plaques. Team Spider’s Web received $1000.00 gift certificate from Electronic Express.Com , a JT USA sponsorship package, as well as plaques for their victory in the Rookie/Novice Class competition. Team Titanium Playdoe, the winners of the Young Guns competition received a $1000.00 gift certificate from Electronic Express. Com as well. Lupe Ramirez pocketed $1000.00 cash for vanquishing all contenders in the Top Gun, triple elimination, competition.
With their victory in the Southern California Super Challenge, the Dragoons earned 200 points toward the prized WPF World Ace title while team Spider’s Web earned 200 points toward the WPF Nov Ace title. The WPF World Ace and Nov Ace Circuits are a series of competitions consisting of six WPF regional tournaments, independently produced wildcard tournaments, and local league competitions. The circuits culminate at the WPF International Masters, where circuit leaders compete to determine who will earn the Ace titles. The amateur team that wins the World Ace title receives a full year’s sponsorship from ZAP Paintballs, National Paintball Supply NJ, Scott USA, National Paintball Supply SC, Tippmann Pneumatics, Indian Creek Designs and Worr Game Products. The novice team earning the Nov Ace title receives paint and equipment prizes worth nearly $4000.
