TEAM SURGE AND LAWN GNOMES WIN THE SCOTT USA PORTLAND FIVE MAN CHALLENGEPRESS RELEASE
NASHVILLE, TN: August 29, 2000: The World Paintball Federation / Scott U.S.A. Portland Five Man Challenge ended Saturday, August 26, with Team Surge of Colorado taking 1st place in the Amateur Class competition and the Lawn Gnomes of Oregon winning the Rookie/Novice Class competition. Total Eclipse from Montana took home the prized WPF Sportsmanship Award. This was the 6th and final regional tournament on the WPF/ZAP Tour 2000. The tour finale is the WPF/ZAP International Masters being held in New Orleans, October 5 - 8, 2000.
ZAP Paintball, the primary sponsor of the WPF/ZAP Tour 2000, was on location, once again, providing its popular ZAP Pro Series Tournament Paintballs and products to participating teams. Every case of ZAP Pro Series paintballs sold at WPF tournaments comes with a quality guarantee: if the customer is not completely satisfied with a case of ZAP paintballs, ZAP will replace the case with a new one at no additional charge.
The host site, Splat Action, owned and operated by John Vida, provided two challenging concept fields on which 16 teams from around the country competed for points toward the World Ace and Nov Ace titles. The World Ace and Nov Ace titles are awarded to the amateur and rookie/novice teams that earn the most points on a circuit composed of the WPF/ZAP Tour 2000 tournaments, the ZAP International Amateur Open, Canada's Amateur Open - Beach Blitz 2000, as well as regional league play.
By winning the Amateur Class competition, Team Surge received free entry into the 2000 WPF/ZAP International Masters in New Orleans along with hotel rooms, travel expenses, 10 cases of ZAP Pro Series Paintballs, and plaques. The Lawn Gnomes received a $1,000 gift certificate from Electronic Express .Com, a JT USA sponsorship package, and plaques for their victory in the Rookie/Novice Class competition. Total Eclipse was awarded 5 custom barrel trophies from Custom Products, Inc. and custom grip frames from Benchmark Manufacturing as the sportsmanship award.
