WORLD PAINTBALL FEDERATION TEAMS TAKE 1st AND 2nd AT THE ZAP INTERNATIONAL AMATEUR OPENPRESS RELEASE
NASHVILLE, TN: August 19, 2000: On Friday, August 4, 2000, two World Paintball Federation member teams, the Dislexic Dogs from Kansas City and the Mercenarios from Brazil, took first and second place, respectively, in the 5 player, amateur competition at the ZAP International Amateur Open, a WPF International Bonus Competition, hosted by Three Rivers Paintball, Pittsburgh, PA. Teams attending this, the 10th anniversary of the ZAP International Amateur Open, competed in 3, 5, and 10 player competitions on both woods and concept fields during this week-long event.
By placing first in the 5 player class, the Dislexic Dogs earned 200 points toward the World Ace title, the WPF's highest award for 5player, amateur competition. Because the ZAP International Amateur Open is an international bonus competition, the teams from outside of North America were able to double their points earned at this event, or earn a full 2/3 of their total points toward the World Ace. Therefore, the Brazilian Mercenarios earned a total of 380 points by placing second. The World Ace award consists of over $10,000 in team support equipment, including a 10' x 20' custom team tent, a custom team gear trailer from the WPF, a year's supply of paint and products from ZAP Paintball, as well as special contingency sponsorships from major manufacturers and distributors. The amateur team earning the most points from the ZAP Tour 2000, wildcard competitions, local league play, and the ZAP International Amateur Open will be the World Ace champion.
For their first place finish, the Dislexic Dogs received free entry into the WPF/ZAP 2000 International Masters in New Orleans, scheduled for October 5 - 8, as well as 5 Indian Creek Design Bushmaster 2000 markers and BTO Y2 cradles, 5 harnesses from Extreme Rage, paint and paint coolers from ZAP Paintball, gift certificates from Scott U.S.A., and much more. The Mercenarios received 5 Mini-Mags from Airgun Designs, 5 Bulldog air systems from ACI, 5 custom Mini-Mag frames from Benchmark Manufacturing, paint and paint coolers from ZAP Paintball, and much more as well.
According to current WPF World Ace points standings as of August 15, 2000, the Mercenarios from Brazil lead the " Race for the Ace " with 380 points while the Dislexic Dogs are in a close second with 330 points. The winner of the World Ace trophy will now be decided at the WPF/ZAP International Masters in New Orleans.
